This starts the final week of summer before we fly to Portugal. I'm madly cramming in as many errands and purchases as I can this week, because as of September 21 I am going to be ALL consumed with supporting the kids remote learning through Arlington Public Schools. Dana is starting 7th grade, Anthony 4th, Miriam 3rd, and Lydia Kindergarten. I can't envision what online K is going to look like...
Today we got word from Rich's mom that she checked into the town's preschool program and she can enter at any time by showing her cartao de cididao (Citizenship card) and she can go 5 days per week, 9:30-3:30, lunch included. Yes please, sign us up! Also, the older 3 can all enter public school and would be provided an English speaking assistant if they chose to enroll. All they would need is their transcripts and citizen cards to enroll. On the other hand, if they don't enroll in public school, I need to prove they are enrolled elsewhere. Not sure how accepting they will be of the kids being in an online school in a foreign country, but I guess we cross that bridge when we get there!
On the list for this week:
-Figure out how the heck to transfer Dana's orthodontic care to Portugal
-Bring Lydia to the Consulate of Portugal in Boston to get her Portuguese passport
-Send my original, (now) apostilled birth certificate to an attorney to get translated and notarized for my eventual citizenship application
And a whole bunch of little things, but those are the biggies.
I'm using the guest room bed to throw all the things that need packing. It's going to get messy in here fast.
